Scope

• Design and implementation of the Electronic Passport System in Senegal
• Fingerprinting of the Senegalese crossing the country’s borders
• Embedded microchip in the passport cover with the biometric passport-holder’s data

 

Implementation

• 3 million citizens of Senegal
• Main passport operation center in Dakar and eight regional passport operation centers in the Republic of Senegal
• Eight overseas passport operation centers in embassies of Senegal in various countries
• Four immigration autogates enhanced with biometrics at Dakar International Airport
• Matching biometric credentials, such as the passport-holders’ live fingerprints captured by a biometric scanner
• Delivery of a biometric management server and 8 biometric matchers (2 quad-core processors each), designed to perform fast fingerprint comparison within 24 hours

 

Outcome

• Compliance with the stipulations mandated by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) for machine-readable travel documents
• Protection of the privacy of users against identity theft
• Added authenticity to identification documents
• Streamlined immigration activities and record-keeping of visitors coming to the country in real time
