Background
- Conventional identification tools (passwords) used in the web-based medical information system Thorax
- Vulnerability of a medical system to mistakes and security breaches on the part of medical staff
Scope
- Enhancing the medical information system with fingerprint biometrics to prevent the misuse of data contained in patient records, medicine-dispensing and other sensitive information
Implementation
- Delivery of BioLink WebSDK to develop a custom web-based application
- Biometric scanners of the BioLink U-Match family
- Installation of the software and biometric equipment on all workstations of one clinical department, namely the Department of Thoracic Surgery.
Outcome
- User identification with fingerprints when logging on to Thorax
- Pilot phase of the project is in progress.
- Expected expansion of the project to all departments
- Planned use of biometrics in all other parts of the computer database, not only in the information system Thorax.6, the final objective of which is a paperless hospital
- Positive feedback of Thorax users
- Considerable simplification and acceleration of access procedures
