Scope
Protection of corporate data against unauthorized access
Major Features
- Centralized storage, protection and transfer of user identification data and centralized management through Active Directory using the BioLink tab in the standard Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) console
- User identification by comparing fingerprint templates of the previously enrolled fingerprints with those produced by touching a biometric scanner
- User identification when logging on to Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003, Novell Netware (4.x and higher)
- Support for Windows and Novell user accounts
- Protection of screensaver and Standby modes
- Workstation unlock by fingerprint
- Replacement of password identification with fingerprint identification in various applications (Microsoft Office, etc.) and when accessing the protected Internet web-sites
Identification Policies
- By fingerprint only (recommended for most users)
- By fingerprint OR password (for administrators and information security personnel)
- By fingerprint AND password (to safeguard access to the most sensitive resources)
Enrollment and Processing of Biometric Identifiers
- Prints of all ten fingers can be enrolled (in this case users can be identified by placing any finger on a biometric scanner)
- Biometric credentials may be enrolled both at the administrator (when adding a new user account in AD) and user workstations
- Fingerprints themselves are never stored or processed; instead, their digital templates are used, and there is no restoration of the original fingerprint image from its template
- Regular generation of new random passwords is available; such passwords are used by the operating system and various applications and automatically assigned to the appropriate user accounts and biometric identifiers
Key Benefits
- Increase of the overall information security level
- Reduced administration costs
- Simplified user identification procedures
- Reduction of administrator burden (80-90%) thanks to decreased help desk calls related to lost or expired passwords or damaged identifiers
