Fingerprint Identification on a PC

  • What is the procedure of fingerprint identification on a PC?

Fingerprint identification on a PC is composed of three major operations:

    • Capturing a fingerprint image
    • Extracting minutiae from an image and generating a fingerprint template
    • Matching the fingerprint template with the newly produced fingerprint

The best quality of fingerprint images is ensured by optical fingerprint scanners with a resolution of no less than 500 dots per inch.

Minutiae extraction is provided through special fingerprint matching algorithms that are usually the know-how of biometric vendors. Minutiae and certain other information recorded in a special format represent the fingerprint template.

Fingerprint matching is also performed via a special function. The output is a match score showing the level of similarity between the two compared fingerprints. Upon comparing the match score with the pre-configured threshold, the biometric system decides whether the two fingerprints match or not

  • Is it possible to transform the fingerprint template back into the fingerprint image?

A digitized fingerprint template represents the minutiae coordinates (such as bifurcations, ridge ends), and this information is not enough to restore the original fingerprint image. Although it is theoretically possible to obtain an image similar to the original one from a template, such an image will not be similar enough for the expert not to tell it apart from the original one.

Authentication Center

  • Installing AC on a PC caused a “blue screen of death”. What should I do?

Firstly, restart your computer. To do so, perform the following steps:

    • Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    • Log on to the operating system as a local administrator.
    • Start regedit and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
    • Find the GinaDLL key (it should be BioGina.dll) and delete it.
    • Restart your computer normally.
    • Contact BioLink ' s technical support for a higher AC version .

  • What is the latest version of AC?

The latest version of BioLink À uthentication Center is v.5.2. In this latest version (compared to v. 5.1), there is a filter for persons in the Logon Manager utility, which dramatically simplifies the management of over 100 users. If you are using AC v.5.1 and the number of users is under 100, there is no need to upgrade to AC v.5.2. If you want to upgrade to AC v.5.2 from an earlier version, please contact our technical support staff.
